WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
BLOGS AND PERSONAL WEBSITES?

The main difference between the two is that blogs tend to be a lot more dynamic than websites. Blogs are updated on a regular basis with posts or entries that usually contain date/time stamps.

Websites, on the other hand, are designed to be static. So, there is no need to update regularly and/or to add the date/time of update. Also, websites are updated with pages rather than posts or entries.

WHAT THE HECK IS A BLOG?

Blogs have taken the Internet by storm. They are the easiest way to publish anything you want to share about yourself, your views on art, your rants, raves, reviews, pictures, music, etc.

The term blog is a blend of the terms web and log, leading to web log, weblog, and finally blog. Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog, or adding an article to an existing blog is called blogging. Individual articles on a blog are called blog posts. A person who posts these entries is called a blogger.

Like other media, blogs often focus on a particular subject, such as food, family, politics, clubs, or local news. Some blogs function as personal online diaries or journals. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

CAN I DO A BLOG?

Certainly. The blog format allows inexperienced computer users to make entries with ease. People blog poems, prose, complaints, daily experiences, pets and more, often allowing others to contribute. Photo blogs consist of a gallery of images published regularly. Text following the image can be just as important.

Travel blogs or journals are one of the web's most popular types of blogs. People love to share their vacation stories and photos with friends, family and the web community. Blogs are a great way for travellers to stay in touch with people back home, especially when travelling for extended periods.

A personal web site is a non-commercial web site managed by a single individual. The typical motive in creating such a site is to share interesting information and ideas. The personal in personal web site should not be taken to mean personal information. Publishing information such as family pictures, date of birth, etc. can be very dangerous.

Creating a good web site requires time and effort. A good web site is not about graphics, and fancy layout. It is about high quality content. High quality content is information that many people are likely to find useful. Such information takes the form of tutorials, interesting articles, fascinating images, and the like. No one can come up with high quality content overnight.

In the future personal web sites will have an increasingly important role in our lives. Individuals and employers will depend on them to make decisions. People who have invested time and effort in creating interesting web sites will have a distinct advantage over people who expended their efforts elsewhere.
